About the Area
About Cabarrus County, NC
Concord, incorporated in 1803, is the county seat, and the 2020 census counted 225,804 people in Cabarrus County. The first substantiated gold find in America happened here in 1799, when Conrad Reed found gold in Little Meadow Creek, and the Reed Gold Mine is now a National Historic Landmark.
Later the county's money came from textiles, and that history is still on the roofs. Cotton and mill money built large homes along North and South Union Street and Edgewood Avenue in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and those streets are now in historic districts.
