Local Conditions
Common roofing challenges in Huntersville, NC
Five roof problems come up all over Huntersville: wind-lifted shingles, hail bruising, first roofs wearing out, attic heat and upper gutters overflowing. The town stretches from the Lake Norman shore across I-77 to exclaves out toward Concord, and roofs on one side do not fail the way they do on the other.
Questions about your roof? Call (704) 352-1112 or get a free estimate.
- Wind-lifted shingles on the lake side Huntersville homes near the Lake Norman shore and on the McDowell Creek side west of NC 115 take wind straight off the water. The wind creases shingles along the nail line and breaks the sealant bond, and a folded shingle keeps the crease in the mat even after it lies down again. We replace the creased courses on those Huntersville roofs and hand-seal the tabs around them.
- Hail bruising after a Piedmont thunderstorm Summer storms cross Huntersville and leave bruises in the shingle mat that you will not see from the ground. Each strike knocks granules loose and exposes the asphalt, and from what we have seen the shingle fails from that spot outward. We mark test squares, photograph each hit and write up the report for your adjuster.
- First roofs wearing out together Huntersville grew fast, and the neighborhoods around the Gilead Road and Sam Furr Road exits were roofed in a short span with the builder's shingle. Those roofs come due in a block. If a neighbor just had a replacement or a storm claim, have yours looked at before the next season.
- Attic heat and poor ventilation A Huntersville summer pushes attic temperatures well past what the shingles see on the outside. A roof with soffit vents but no ridge vent cooks the underlayment from below, so we check intake and exhaust on every inspection. On one roof-and-gutter job a reviewer listed, attic venting repairs went in with the roof, which is the usual time to do it.
- Upper gutters overflowing onto lower roofs On a two-story Huntersville home, a clogged upper gutter overflows onto the lower roof and the fascia below it. We replace failed gutter runs with the roof and set the drip edge over the gutter apron. When the gutters are fine and the guards are full, we clear them; a homeowner mentioned in a review that their drainage issue was most likely debris on the gutter guards, not faulty gutters, and we removed it.
If one of these sounds like your Huntersville roof, book a free inspection. Our owner photographs it and tells you whether it needs a repair or a replacement.

Matthew is the most professional owner I have encountered in a very long time. As a former owner of a business it was such a great experience working with Matthew. He is detail oriented, knowledgeable of all things roofing, product knowledge. He is a pleasure to work with. Completed the inspection, provided pictures and explanation, patched the roof and came and met with the insurance adjuster.…
Just had my roof and gutters done with Charlotte Premier Roofing. From start to finish the experience was beyond expectation. Matthew communicated with me along the way and when I had to put the project on hold he didn’t try to pressure me to do it sooner. I’ve dealt with some companies that are so pushy and untrustworthy; this is not one of them.…
Matthew and his team at Charlotte Premier Roofing did an exceptional job replacing my roof. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and completed on schedule. The workmanship is excellent, and the price was very reasonable. I truly appreciated their professionalism, clear communication, and attention to detail throughout the project.…

About the Area
All about Huntersville, NC
Huntersville is the biggest of the three North Meck towns, between Charlotte to the south and Cornelius to the north. The Lake Norman shoreline is on its northwest edge, and exclaves reach east toward Davidson and Concord.
It is the far north end of the area we serve at Charlotte Premier Roofing. We cover all of it, from the older town center along Old Statesville Road to the newer areas on both sides of I-77.
Roads and roof ages
Interstate 77 runs through the middle of town, with exits at Gilead Road and at NC 73, which most people call Sam Furr Road. Statesville Road (US 21) runs beside the interstate. Old Statesville Road (NC 115) runs through the original town center.

The old town sits by the Gilead Road exit. Birkdale Village and the shopping, medical and office complexes around Sam Furr Road came after that exit opened. Roof age tends to follow the same order, and that is roughly how we set expectations for decking and flashing before we get on the roof.
Where the water goes
West of NC 115, the town drains southwest through McDowell Creek into Mountain Island Lake, Charlotte's drinking water supply. East of NC 115, it drains to Clarke Creek and on to the Rocky River.
Either way, a heavy storm moves a lot of water off a lot of roofs. So on a Huntersville replacement we spend time on drip edge, gutter sizing and where the downspouts empty, not only the shingles.

More about roofing in Huntersville
Huntersville calls itself a lake community because of Lake Norman, and for a roof the lake means wind. Wind hits the rakes and eaves first, so we nail and seal for it.
Summer thunderstorms are the other constant in Huntersville, and those are where the hail claims come from.
Joe Gibbs Racing is based in town. The Carolina Renaissance Festival runs in October and November, and there are three golf courses: NorthStone, Skybrook and Birkdale.
Homes with complex roofs
When a Huntersville home has multiple gables, dormers and long valleys, the leaks happen where those parts meet. So we spend more of the inspection at the valleys, the dead valleys behind chimneys and the wall flashing than on the open field.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions: roofing in Huntersville, NC
What happens after a hail storm hits my Huntersville roof?
Call us for a free inspection. We walk the Huntersville roof, mark test squares, photograph every hit and put the photos into a report.
If there is a claim, we contact the insurer, coordinate the inspections and meet the adjuster on the Huntersville roof. One reviewer wrote that after we prepared a detailed photo report, the insurance company agreed to pay to replace the entire roof at no cost to the homeowner. The adjuster makes that decision every time.
Can you replace the gutters with the roof on a Huntersville home?
Yes. Gutter replacement is one of our services and it is easiest with the drip edge exposed, so on a Huntersville re-roof we quote the two together.
Several homeowners have had roof and gutters done on one job. One reviewer wrote that after a hail storm our crew removed and replaced their roof and gutters in one day.
Does living near Lake Norman mean my Huntersville roof takes more wind than one further inland?
It can. The northwest edge of Huntersville runs along the Lake Norman shore, and wind coming off open water hits a roof harder than the same storm does a few miles inland. On the lake side of town we check every nail on the nail line and make sure the starter course is sealed at the eaves and rakes, since that's usually the first place uplift starts.
Between the lake wind and the summer thunderstorms that cross the Piedmont, wind is typically the first thing we check on a Huntersville inspection, lake-side or not.
How far is Huntersville from Charlotte Premier Roofing, and which roads do you take?
We're based in Weddington, and Huntersville is the north end of our service area. We come up Old Statesville Road (NC 115) and South Main Street through the town center, or I-77 if the job is closer to the interstate.
Huntersville itself splits along NC 115: the older town center sits off the Gilead Road exit, and Birkdale Village and the newer shopping and office areas grew up around the Sam Furr Road exit further north. Roof age tends to follow the same pattern, which we already factor in before we're even on the roof.
