Local Conditions
Common roofing challenges in Concord, NC
The five roof problems we get called for most in Concord are old plank decking, hail bruising, ice at the eaves, overflowing gutters and attic heat. Which one you have mostly tracks the age of the street. Concord is a big city by area, with the oldest streets around the courthouse and Union Street and the newest annexed westward toward Charlotte since the 1970s.
Questions about your roof? Call (704) 352-1112 or get a free estimate.
- Old decking under old shingles Homes in the North and South Union Street districts and the old mill villages have plank decking that has been nailed into for a century. The boards split, the gaps open up and new nails do not hold. On those Concord roofs we budget for re-decking with sheet goods before the new underlayment goes down, and it goes in the estimate up front.
- Hail bruising after a spring or summer storm Thunderstorms are common in Concord from spring through summer, pushed in from the southwest by the prevailing wind. Hail leaves bruises that only show under thumb pressure and knocks granules off around each strike. We mark a test square, photograph every hit and prepare the report for your adjuster, and the insurer decides what gets paid.
- Ice storms at the eaves Cabarrus County sees ice storms and a few accumulating snows in a normal winter. Meltwater refreezes at the eaves, backs up under the shingles and gets past the underlayment wherever there is no ice-and-water membrane. Roofs installed years ago often lack it, so on a Concord replacement we put it at every eave and valley.
- Heavy summer downpours and undersized gutters Concord's rain comes heavier and less often in summer. One hard cell overwhelms a five-inch gutter with a clogged downspout, and water goes over the back, under the drip edge and into the fascia. We replace failed gutter runs with the roof and set the drip edge over the gutter apron.
- Attic heat in the 90s and above Concord summers routinely run into the mid-to-upper 90s and sometimes past 100. An attic without a ridge vent runs far hotter, and the shingles cook from underneath until the edges curl and the sealant strip lets go early. We check intake and exhaust on every inspection and cut in a ridge vent when we replace the roof.
If you suspect any of these on a Concord roof, start with the free inspection. Our owner photographs the roof and tells you whether it is a repair or a replacement.

Matthew is the most professional owner I have encountered in a very long time. As a former owner of a business it was such a great experience working with Matthew. He is detail oriented, knowledgeable of all things roofing, product knowledge. He is a pleasure to work with. Completed the inspection, provided pictures and explanation, patched the roof and came and met with the insurance adjuster.…
Just had my roof and gutters done with Charlotte Premier Roofing. From start to finish the experience was beyond expectation. Matthew communicated with me along the way and when I had to put the project on hold he didn’t try to pressure me to do it sooner. I’ve dealt with some companies that are so pushy and untrustworthy; this is not one of them.…
Matthew and his team at Charlotte Premier Roofing did an exceptional job replacing my roof. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and completed on schedule. The workmanship is excellent, and the price was very reasonable. I truly appreciated their professionalism, clear communication, and attention to detail throughout the project.…

About the Area
All about Concord, NC
Concord is the county seat of Cabarrus County, northeast of Uptown. It is the second-largest city in the Charlotte area.
Concord is the far northeast corner of the area we serve from Weddington, with Harrisburg and Midland on the way. Our owner drives up to inspect and quote the roof in person.
Older homes near the center
Concord is old by North Carolina standards. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, cotton and mill money built large homes along North and South Union Street and Edgewood Avenue. Those streets are now in historic districts, along with the mill villages around them, Mill Hill among them.

Roofs on those Concord houses are steep and sit on plank decking. A chimney from that era was flashed with mortar. So we plan for the decking and the flashing before we quote.
Newer subdivisions to the west
Since the 1970s, most of Concord's growth has come from annexing land west of the old center, toward Charlotte. In places the city limit now touches the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg line. The subdivisions are out there, roofed in batches with builder shingles that are now reaching replacement age.
Roads we use
Interstate 85 runs eight lanes through the city. I-485 runs along the county line to the southwest. US 29 and US 601 cross town, and our crews use all four to get around Concord.

More about roofing in Concord
Land and weather
Cabarrus County is rolling Piedmont between 500 and 800 feet up. Its longest waterway is the Rocky River. The climate is usually called temperate, with hot summers and mild to chilly winters.
Severe weather comes now and then. The warm months bring thunderstorms, and winter brings ice storms and a few snows that stick. On a Concord inspection we look for hail bruising from the storms and eave damage from the ice.
Around Concord
Concord is home to Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMax Dragway and Concord Mills. The race shops of Hendrick Motorsports and others are here too. The city's neighborhood partnership program covers dozens of neighborhoods, from modest homes to large estates.
On any of those Concord homes the inspection is free and photographed, and the estimate comes from our owner. We put on Owens Corning Duration shingles, with our 5-year workmanship warranty on the work.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions: roofing in Concord, NC
How does a hail claim work on a Concord roof?
Book the free inspection. If we find hail bruising, we mark test squares, photograph every hit and prepare a photo report.
Then we contact your insurer, coordinate the inspections and meet the adjuster on the Concord roof. One reviewer wrote that this ended with the insurance company agreeing to pay to replace the entire roof at no cost to them. What is covered is the adjuster's decision.
Do you clean gutters in Concord?
Not as a stand-alone service: we replace gutters, usually while the Concord roof is being replaced and the drip edge is exposed.
We clear debris when it turns out to be the cause of a drainage problem we were called about. Small gutter repairs and routine cleaning are not something we sell on their own.
Is Concord in Cabarrus County or Mecklenburg County?
Concord is the Cabarrus County seat, on the far northeastern edge of the area we serve from Weddington. The city has grown west over the decades until its limit now touches the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg line in places, so a street near that edge can look and feel like Mecklenburg County even though the address is still Cabarrus.
We don't treat it differently. Same crew and same Owens Corning Duration shingles either side of that line, and the workmanship warranty runs 5 years regardless. Our owner still drives up from Weddington to inspect and quote a Concord roof in person, wherever in the city it sits.
What roads does Charlotte Premier Roofing use to reach Concord?
We're based in Weddington. Reaching Concord usually means NC 49 and Old Charlotte Road Southwest toward Harrisburg. For the Huntersville side of the city we swing onto Davidson Highway (NC 73) and Ramah Church Road, and a Midland job means US 601 and Branchview Drive Southeast (NC 3).
Concord itself is easy to get around: Interstate 85 runs eight lanes through the middle of it, and I-485 comes close along the county's southwest edge.
